Vatican and World Council of Churches study warns of conversion 'obsession'
A study process jointly sponsored by the Vatican and the World Council of Churches (WCC) kicked off this week by affirming the freedom of religion as a "non-negotiable" human right valid for everyone everywhere while at the same time stressing that the "obsession of converting others" needs to be cured.

India: state to tighten control on conversions - Report blames missionaries for violence in Madhya Pradesh
Officials in the north-central state of Madhya Pradesh say their anti-conversion law will be amended to check the conversion of tribal people to Christianity. The decision follows a report by Narendra Prasad, a retired director-general of police, claiming missionaries were forcibly converting large numbers of people. His report blamed Christian missionaries and government laxity for the “huge” numbers of conversions. Prasad also blamed Christian missionaries for last year’s confrontation between Christians and groups opposing conversions in the district of Jhabua. Three recent incidents show that conversion is a contentious issue in the state.

Report: Missionaries ‘Cover Turkey Like a Spider’s Web’
Intelligence agencies within the Turkish state have concluded in a new report entitled “Reactionary Elements and Risks” that Christian missionary activities inside the country have a second motive, parallel to their spread of Christian propaganda. According to a June 11 article in Cumhuriyet newspaper, the state believes that foreign missionaries are also promoting ethnic divisions, particularly among the Kurds. The report accuses missionaries of focusing on sensitive regions of the country and using the cover of “faith tourism” to target lower-income citizens, youth, children and women.
